Nicholas' Review:
This lake is like a hundred miles from anything, but it is really cool because it is in the middle of a bunch of cliffs, so it feels like you are in a big bowl! The boat is really big and has two levels for people to site on, so everyone has a good seat. The boat captain is really funny and told us lots of stories about the mountains and all the stuff out there. One thing I did NOT like was that kids younger than 12 had to wear life jackets, because it made us a lot hotter than everyone else!

Melissa's Notes:
Just outside of Phoenix, along the famous Apache Trail drive, awaits one of Arizona's finest attractions with some of the most amazing views to be found in the entire southwest. The stately old paddleboat, The Dolly Steamboat, is a lovely way to take in the sheer cliffs and desert scenery that surrounds the deep blue waters of Canyon Lake.

When making reservations, several cruise packages are available to choose from. The basic historical cruise lasts an hour and a half, and the cruise captain provides a light and entertaining (and slightly corny!) commentary about the local history and surrounding areas. This cruise is offered twice per day, but guests should call first to make sure that it is not fully booked or privately chartered. If one is looking for a more unique experience, then the two and a half hour long twilight dinner cruise is worth considering. Sunset, stars and spectacular scenery, topped with a delicious buffet, make this an unforgettable experience! One night each month, the Dolly offers a special astronomy twilight cruise where a local expert provides an insightful class about the beautiful night skies that blanket the southwest.

The Dolly Steamboat has both an upper and lower deck and can carry up to 142 guests and 3 staff members per cruise. If traveling on the daytime cruises, it can still get quite hot even with the light wind blowing in the shade of the deck, so make sure to bring water. (No other drinks or snacks are permitted, but can be purchased with cash once on board.)

Because of the unique setting, the Dolly Steamboat is a unique place for weddings, gatherings and corporate events.

Jacob Tip:   Watch for wildlife in the cliffs as the boat takes you around. We saw bighorn sheep and a bald eagle!
