Scottsdale Art Walk
Downtown Scottsdale Thursday Date Night!
I thought going to art galleries would be really boring, but the Scottsdale Art Walk really surprised me! We went to the Lawrence Gallery which had Dr. Seuss pictures for sale. I never thought of that as art!
Downtown Scottsdale surges with energy every Thursday night as visitors wander along Main Street and Marshall Way taking in the sights of some of the Southwest's most amazing artists at the downtown Scottsdale Art Walk! From 7-9pm visitors can take in art displays from more than one hundred galleries that are part of the Scottsdale Gallery Association.
For more than thirty years, the SGA spotlights artists from all backgrounds at the weekly Art Walk. The Art Walk is a cultural smorgasbord where visitors are likely to find Southwestern landscapes right next to a Swedish impressionist gallery. In addition to all the spectacular pieces of art that can be found inside the galleries, the streets themselves keep with the artistic design and are lined with elegant fountains and sculptures or tree-filled courtyards that intertwine natural art with the thousands of different styles that are showcased throughout the Art Walk itself. It truly is a sight to behold!
For those who want to do more than just view art, sites such as the Art of Merlot offers single classes for those who just wish to have fun or dabble, or for those seeking a more detailed course of study, then the Scottsdale Artists School always has an array of courses from many different mediums that allow for artists to experiment with new and unique techniques. Seeing as how the Art Walk has an appeal that is both casual and unique, all visitors are sure to find something appealing to their artistic senses during their visit.
In addition to visiting the studios or learning galleries, visitors must not neglect the array of fine restaurants that abound in the downtown Scottsdale area. Once you add the experience of fine dining and drinks to the wonder that is the Art Walk, the evening very quickly becomes a night that will not soon be forgotten.
Note: It can be difficult to find parking on Thursday evenings, but the city of Scottsdale provides a free trolley service that runs until 9 p.m. on Thursdays. Check the city transportation webpage for a schedule and map.
