Jacob's Review:
Visiting something called a gravesite freaked me out a little until I got here. There is a really cool museum here and the view is awesome! Somebody said it’s the best view of Golden in the area. That’s pretty cool! I learned a lot about Buffalo Bill. If it hadn’t been for him, cowboys probably wouldn’t be as popular as they are today. I got a great cowboy hat to remember this place by!

Dad's Notes:
The Buffalo Bill Gravesite & Museum are an absolutely need-to-see when you’re anywhere near Denver. Golden is a hop skip and a jump away (about 15 miles). There are several attractions to check out in Golden. The Buffalo Bill Museum makes a great morning or afternoon activity.

The museum holds exhibits interpreting the life and times of Buffalo Bill, also known as Mr. William F. Cody. The gift shop is a real treat. It’s filled with rustic souvenirs and holds its own weight in history. It was built in 1921 as the original museum and today houses the gift shop and café. For decades this giftshop—The Pahaska Tepee—has been a tourist destination.

An observation deck provides breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountain Front Range. The Great plains stretch out in awe-inspiring glory below. The deck is free of charge and open to the public. Hours are the same as the gift shop and café.

After exploring the museum and taking in the brilliance of the observation check, you can lose yourself in a picnic and hiking. Several picnic hours dot the mountain. Grilling is not permitted, but if you have your heart set on Smores you can detour to Lookout Mountain Park. It’s found at the base of the Museum entrance and has plenty of grilling.

A one-mile mountain trail connects the Museum with the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. Other regional trails are nearby. Maps are at the Nature Center. If you decide to tackle a hike, be sure to have sturdy shoes (hiking boots are optimal), bring water, and stay alert to the local wildlife. Pets are welcome to join your day of fun so long as they are on a leash.

Jacob Tip:   Buffalo Bill made the word “cowboy” popular. The word started out as an insult because folks didn’t like people who herded bows. Today everybody loves cowboys. Don’t ever stop doing something you love because people pick on you. Later they may want to be just like you!
