Jacob's Review:
Lookout Mountain is full of stuff to look at! I don’t think I ever saw so many plants and animals outside of a zoo before. It didn’t matter if you were eating at the picnic tables or walking on a trail. There was always something new to see. The rocky mountains are way cool!

Dad's Notes:
Lookout Mountain Nature Center (LMNC) & Preserve offers more than a day’s worth of outstanding outdoor activities to explore. I think we could easily have camped out for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The 110-acre park houses meandering trails and engaging activities for the entire family.

The mountain is one of the most gorgeous locations in Golden, CO. The scenery is picture perfect—even on overcast days. LMNC endeavors to impart nature and wildlife awareness, understanding, and conservation. Year-round educational exhibits and programs are a cornerstone of the center.

Activities offered via the LMNC are designed to engage everyone who visits the park, regardless of age or interests. Guided programs are offered to showcase the natural treasures of Jefferson County. You can adventure through interactive exhibits revealing some of nature’s best kept secrets. The kids can learn a great deal about recycling by searching the facility for reused and eco-friendly building materials.

The picnic area is nestled beneath immense ponderosa pine trees. If you’re up for a mild trek after lunch, you can travel a trail that links to the Buffalo Bill Museum and Gravesite further up the mountain. The trek is well worth the time once you set foot on the museum’s observation deck. The deck provides the most awesome views of Golden for miles!

Kids will love searching for wildlife on 1.5 miles of gently sloping trails. You can even schedule a group program to learn more about the park, preservation and conversations, and the local wildlife. Guided and self-guided tours are available. Lookout Mountain is a gem of the Rocky Mountains. No trip is complete without a stopover to enjoy the scenery.

Jacob Tip:   The Lookout Mountain Nature Center & Preserve has a trail that goes up to the Buffalo Bill Museum. You don’t have to be an expert hiker to take the trail. The views at the museum are great after the hike!
