Rylan's Review:
We had a fun day at this zoo. They do have a lot of animals but it isn’t a huge zoo so if you have little brothers and sisters they will not be too tired from walking. A fun show is “Wings Over Water” – WOW – with trained birds doing all kinds of things. The parrots are very funny! We also got to play in the huge fountain. The water seems like it’s dancing to the music, don’t forget to bring your swimsuits though.

Mom's Notes:

What a gorgeous zoo! It is laid out to make it easy to see everything and the landscaping is lush, tropical, shaded and well taken care of. And speaking of well taken care of – the animals here appear to be happy and healthy.

We enjoyed watching the Malayan tiger cubs romping with their mom (there is a live Tiger Cam that you can watch from 11-4, see link below), the otters were a blast and you will see so many varieties of birds walking along the paths – just try to identify them all.

There is a resident albino alligator, anteaters, stunning pink flamingoes – 1400 animals within 23 acres. Don’t miss Monkey Island or one of their newer exhibits – Tropics of the Americas, with jaguars, capybaras and tapirs set in a 3 acre South American ‘rain forest’. You’ll see Mayan pyramids and sculptures too.

The interactive water fountain is perfect on hot days. There are changing tents so bring swimsuits and towels. The music is timed to very upbeat music and is a great way for the kids to cool off and burn some energy while Mom and Dad relax at the tables nearby.

For a couple of dollars you can ride the beautiful carousel. If you get hungry grab a bite to eat at the full-service, sit-down Tropics Café or the Concession Stand sells ice cream, hot dogs, etc. Of course you’ll find a Gift Shop; this one is on the small side and sells the usual zoo animal-themed items.

Jacob Tip:   If you and your siblings are hounding your parents for a pet, and they say yes, make sure you visit your local animal shelters. You can find every age, size and breed of dog or cat, among other animals, and all of them will be spayed and have their shots. Shelter pets are the best!
