A Brief History of Tallahassee, Pensacola, Panama City & Florida Pan Handle
Modern amenities with a warm, welcoming, Southern feel. That about sums up the Florida Panhandle. Due to its close proximity to Alabama and Georgia, this region boasts much that is loved about the South. Savor fresh seafood right from the Gulf, stroll among the renovated waterfront warehouses that once housed cotton crops in Apalachicola, go tubing down spring-fed Holmes Creek, or see how far you can spit seeds at the annual Panhandle Watermelon Festival, held at the end of June.

Visit Destin, called the "world's luckiest fishing village", now a prime tourist destination known for its stunning beaches and designer outlet centers. Huge crowds are drawn to the Destin Fishing Rodeo and Destin Seafood Festival each October.

If you find yourself in Pensacola between mid-March and mid-November don't forget to look up - you may see the Blue Angels practicing - best seen from the viewing area at the National Naval Aviation Museum.

Get a dose of big-city charm in Tallahassee, the state capitol and home of Florida State University (FSU) and the Seminoles Football Team. Herman, a 12,000-18,000 year-old mastodon, whose bones were found in Wakulla Springs, keeps an eye on the exhibits at the Museum of Florida History. And did you know there are two original Batmobiles at the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum?

Grab your pails and go crabbing on Perdido Key or just roll up your sleeves and enjoy some live Cajun music and steamed oysters at the Flora-Bama Lounge, Package & Oyster Bar. You're sure to leave the Panhandle with some fond memories and probably sunburn:.
