San Gabriel Park
& "Blue Hole"
Recommended by Ginger Grimes
I like the wood castle thing - it has lots of tunnels and stairs and it's long. You have to bring your bike or roller blades because there are long cement trails and it's a lot of fun to go on them. The park is really pretty. It has lots of really old trees. There is a bridge across the river and if you go on this bridge, when you get to the top you should go right and it will lead you to a place that has a really pretty view of the river and there is a waterfall and I saw some people Kayaking in the river. That looked like a lot of fun too.
A really great place with so much to do! A big park with hike and bike trails - about 2 miles of cement trail great for bikes or rollerblading, also dirt trails great for running. There are plenty of family activities available at San Gabriel Park. The park offers basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, batting cages and covered picnic areas with large BBQ grills. There are plenty of grassy fields for playing a game of Frisbee, or football. Or try your hand at the 9 hole Disc Golf Course. The park also offers a skate park, rodeo arena, and a show barn. There is a dog park too. Fairs and carnivals and 4th of July fireworks are a regular activity at the park as well. The park can be rented out for special events too. See their website for more information.
At Blue Hole, another section of the San Gabriel Park, you can have a picnic and they have a wading area in the river. It's a really nice place to go for a quiet afternoon. For kayakers and tubers who put in upstream, this is the takeout point for them. You can fish in the river, there are some great duck feeding areas.
Kids really like the wooden "PlayScape" playground with its tunnels, monkey bars, tire swings, slides and stuff.
Also The Georgetown Rec center where for only $103 for 3 month membership you can use weight room, 2 racquetball courts, basketball courts, aerobic and spinning rooms, indoor pool, outdoor seasonal splash pool, a conference room, and a game room that includes pool tables, shuffleboard, foosball and ping pong (no extra charges!). The Rec center also offers a sitter service, for a fee, while you utilize the center.
