Jacob's Review:
There is this little tiny train people can sit inside it but it's not a big huge train - it's a small one and people can sit inside it and it will take you around (the park). There is some plants, flowers and a blacksmith shop sometimes. There is an old log house and a wish well. There is Dinosaur tracks here too, but they were there before people moved there.

Dad's Notes:
Zilker Park is a beautiful 358 acre greenbelt along Barton Creek and Lady Bird Lake. Numerous hike & bike trails, canoe rentals, big PlayScape, picnic areas, the Zilker Zephyr miniature train, Barton Springs Pool (see next page). A 9 Hole Disc Golf course at the corner of Barton Springs Rd. and Mopac. Also, soccer fields, rugby field and sand volleyball courts. There is also 'Splash' a cave like interactive walk through display about the Edwards Aquifer (next to the pool) - kid's dig it! The Austin Nature Center is located in Zilker Park (see separate page). Regular festivals, live music and special events.

In the summer, the Zilker Summer Musical and Shakespeare in the Park is held at Zilker Hillside Theatre. To enjoy the show, you need to get there early (but the park asks that you don't put blankets on the ground before 6 pm in order to protect the grass) to get the best seat in the house but bring a blanket or folding chairs because this seat is on the hillside but you can bring a picnic to enjoy while you sit back and enjoy the show.

The Botanical Gardens in Zilker Park include numerous gardens, separate walks and themes. Including a neat Dinosaur Era Garden - recently completed. Real and replicated dinosaur tracks (recently discovered on site), waterfalls, and a big dinosaur of types that made the tracks!

Don't miss the beautiful Oriental Gardens that were designed by a Japanese gentleman. Includes fish ponds, plants, stone landscaping and pagoda's, shady spots with bamboo shelters. (PS - No food/picnic allowed in Botanical Gardens).

Jacob Tip:   It is good to have a truck - then you can bring your bike here to ride around so many miles that you can't ride them all. But don't bring your bike if it was raining yesterday, cause it might be muddy.
