Kayla's Review:
I liked this place. The ladies were wearing pretty dresses. I got to put on a really long dress too and play house. I liked the part where the lady showed us how to make candles. I want to do that when I grow up. There was a man who was a blacksmith and he made a hook. It was cool.

Mom's Notes:
The Log Cabin Village is a living history museum. Visiting the village is like stepping back in time into the 19th century. Several log cabins from the Texas pioneer era have been transported into the middle of this beautiful park in Fort Worth. These preserved cabins offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the people who lived in them. In each cabin, an actor wearing the clothes of the period relays the history of the cabin and the people who were associated with it. There is one cabin specifically for the children where they can dress up in period clothes and play with the furniture and utensils.

Outside the cabins there are artists who demonstrate skills of the period. We saw several demonstrations of these lost arts. There was a candle maker, a quilter, a blacksmith and a weaver. They were all very talented and the kids seemed to be fascinated watching these items being made by hand. In the museum store, they sell most of the items they make as well as some interesting books and postcards. We ended up taking home some souvenirs.

A reconstructed schoolhouse allows the kids to see how pioneer children were educated. It was so interesting looking at their lessons and the school supplies they had. There was a beautiful herb garden where you can learn to identify different types of herbs and how they were used by the pioneers.

This is a fun, inexpensive way to get a slice of Texas life in the late 1800s. I highly recommend it.
